I guess this contest is open to bots to vote as well? What a joke.

We are checking IP addresses for bot voting. We will subtract those at the end if found but FWIW in the last 5 days there have been 131k unique visits to the site. Each fan base has the guy in mom’s basement voting a few hundred times, it’s just finding them for your team to vote. The Buffs, Wazzu and Cats voting has been a great surprise to us. I am just glad we can choose to be different than other preview mags.

        April 2, 2014 at 4:06 pm

That guy in his mom’s basement is the whole BYU fan base at this point. I know there are crazy buffs fans out there, but BYU fans are famous for swarming polls because they have nothing else to do while they are at their MLM firm jobs and the wife is at home slaving away with their 5+ kids. They will find any little way to beat Utah off the field, because God knows they can’t do it on the field anymore..

          April 3, 2014 at 6:52 am

Don’t worry Dude, some Ute fans have posted a voting bot script on utefans.net. Waste of time on their end though since Mr. Bartoo said he will discount those votes.

BYU fans have nothing to do with CU formerly being in the lead. CU fans always dominate these online polls, even against real programs like Nebraska and Texas. We don’t need BYUs help to beat Utah. But apparently you guys need to cheat with bots.

            April 3, 2014 at 8:12 am

Yup. There is one on this poll right now. It’s cute seeing a vote every 5 sec from a single IP. There are a couple of others that are suspect too. The big bot is over on the Big 12 poll. We are thinking 16k votes for one guy from the same computer might be a bot. LOL. A fan could do about 750 votes in an hour on their own so vote counts over 1k for an IP are reviewed. It’s averaging about 10 votes per IP so far. Folks are voting for a minute or two then they are done.

            April 6, 2014 at 1:37 pm

Looks like you have some more deleting to do. Utah made up over 10,000 votes in the last few hours. Wouldn’t surprise me if they figured out a way to blast it from different IPs too. Oh well.

            April 6, 2014 at 4:18 pm

The Utes have been pouring in from faccebook. Since the vote run started their have been over 8k unique IPs hit the site from FB. If each voted 10k it would be scary fast

            April 6, 2014 at 10:46 pm

30k votes in less than 24 hours for the utes…. after having been busted 3 or 4 times previously for bots, this reeks of foul play.

          • Tom

            April 7, 2014 at 6:12 am

What, Bartoo, my comment hit too close to home so you deleted it? It was just a simple statement doubting the utes votes, based on their history. But it’s your game and you can let Utah play however you want. Good luck with your site.

Nope. Individual votes only. Addison Gillam led the PAC 12 in tackles last year and will be one of the top three players in the league so please don’t discount the results.

Or could just be excellent marketing via social media… Doesn’t take a lot of votes to get big numbers when a few thousand people are voting….

  6. Kingslea

    April 2, 2014 at 1:51 pm

No bots from CU, just fans who care about the program. Maybe it’s news to the Pac that CU has a loyal fan base instead of the prevalent left coast apathy.

Really? You went and recruited BYU BUffSkier? So your fanbase can’t beat Utah or you’re feeling pressure that you can’t so you go and recruit another fanbase?

    • Kingslea

      April 3, 2014 at 1:08 pm

Seems the fan base feeling pressure is Utah’s seeing as you’re resorting to bots

    • Buffskier

      April 3, 2014 at 3:15 pm

Assuming that the bot has been going for approximately 19 hours now – averaging 1 vote every 5 seconds – that would equate to 13,680 votes. Take those away and the yutes are almost 10,000 behind Addison and the Buffs. I was simply taking the advice from all the yutes and if BYU fans would throw a few hundred extra votes our way, who am I to turn them away?

  10. Not Taysom Hill

Can you please discount Utah’s bot votes? It has been going for almost 24 hours now.

I’m a Buff and have been voting but just curious, hot can you tell Utah has bots voting?

      • David

        April 4, 2014 at 2:24 pm

They have posted the voting script on their message board a couple times. That and they keep making up 3K votes so fast. Its definitely running right now.

        April 4, 2014 at 3:03 pm

I hope they are removing CU’s bot votes too since there are admissions of guilt on CU’s site too.

they’re clearly talking about Utah using bots, not themselves. And this poll is monitored for bots and it’s only Utah doing so.

          April 4, 2014 at 3:20 pm

You really need some help with your reading comprehension if you got that Buff fans were using a bot from that mb.

          • Kingslea

            April 4, 2014 at 11:39 pm

Zoo, this poll obviously doesn’t limit you to vote once, in fact it clearly encourages you to vote more than once. Not sure why you’re whining about that. CU fans didn’t make the rules..

And…Utah caught cheating with bots yet again

  15. ntwrk

    April 5, 2014 at 10:39 am

Its funny that you say that 1 vote every 5 seconds indicates a bot (you’re quote: “It’s cute seeing a vote every 5 sec from a single IP.”), yet I can vote manually 1 time every ~3 seconds, from a single IP.
I understand if you’re getting thousands of votes from a single IP, 24/7, its most likely a bot, but saying vote frequency from a single IP is an indicator, that’s just naive; I’m sure you know nearly all companies will PAT IP addresses.

    • Kingslea

      April 5, 2014 at 9:24 pm

the difference is you presumably do that for a limited amount of time. not for 19 hours like Utah’s bots. it’s not like Utah’s bot use has even been a secret, the link has been pasted all over their boards.

      • ntwrk

        April 8, 2014 at 9:21 am

You say the bot link has been “…pasted all over their boards.” Show me the links. I’m a member of utefans.net and I’ve seen two posts about this poll: one from 1 April that is telling people to keep voting for Dres (only mention of bots is that BYU fans would probably make one to vote against us) and one from 2 April where a guy mentions a bot he started running and you could use to automate voting; this is the only time on that site that someone even mentions using a bot to vote for Dres.
I have no doubt that there is someone from the Utah fan base that has or had been using a bot, but it seems the mods of this site have been doing a pretty good job at deducting those votes.
As for the frequency of the voting: the poll has been going for ~11 days. Dres has ~78k votes (omitting those that have already been taken away by the mods for botting). Thats just over 7000 votes a day, 295 votes an hour, ~5 votes a minute and .082 votes a second…….thats only 1 vote every ~12 seconds. As a side note CU is only 9k votes behind Utah, seems like the voting has been pretty equal. Why do you assume that most of the votes from Utah are from bots and all of the CU votes are ‘valid’, especially where the voting has been pretty equal?
Anyhow, I would love to see Dres on the cover, he’s a fantastic player, but the CU kid is a stud and I wouldn’t be hurt one bit if he ended up on the cover either.

        • Buffskier

          April 8, 2014 at 10:18 am

It is the “rate” at which voting has occurred. Colorado fans didn’t quite find out about this poll until April 1. That’s a week of voting and we’re putting in about 10K per day consistently.

Utah was at 14K when Buffs fans really caught wind of this. CU got ahead by as many as 7500 votes, but Utah has been extremely sporadic in their bursts. They drop 10k in one afternoon, then 2k the next day, then 26k on sunday, then 7k monday, today they have like 500….

Also – the moderator indicated that there was a “bot” running. Utah has had votes docked 3 or 4 times that I have seen. If he sees a bot, I’m inclined to believe him.

          April 8, 2014 at 8:16 pm

Its on utefans.net Not going to waste time trying to find it on that archaic joke of a message board, but it was posted.

At this very moment, Utah has been getting about 20 votes a second for the last hour. No new social media posts from Utah football or anything. Really don’t care, but that is not natural voting.

Umm.. You all know that majority of Colorado Linebackers votes are being submitted by “Provo State” (BYU) fans… They take this #HolyWar rivalry very seriously enough to go out of their way to vote against anything Utah Football related online. #YeahItllBeOkay

If I was the Pac 12 I would want the #RedRocket Dres Anderson on my cover! #6for6 #GoUtes

    • David

      April 11, 2014 at 12:48 pm

Majority? No way, not even close. Utah football tweeted and posted on FB. CU football followed that up and did the same. Our online community on AllBuffs and Rivals dwarfs Utah. Colorado has always done well with these online polls while we were in the Big XII and now the PAC 12. Get used to it.

      • Pac(12)Man

        April 13, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Leave Colorado alone. They can’t beat anyone in football, so winning a contest that doesn’t impact the season at all is all they got. It’s true about those Cougar fans. Is there a more pathetic fan base in the country? Glad I’m a Huskies fan.

        • Annmarie

          April 14, 2014 at 4:17 pm

Let’s remember this poll is a reflection on the fans, not the players. Utah fans obviously cared enough about the “contest” to vote using bots and it was a close race throughout. No, winning the “contest does not impact the season at all” but it nice to give the players recognition any time they can get it. Colorado may not have had too many wins, but they are on the right track now, and although they lost to Utah in 2013, the video on you tube of the game shows that “Gillam kid” did have a great game and made an impact, especially considering he was only a freshman. So let’s remember who this is for…They are just kids doing what they love and the support of the fans means a lot, but it is not a reflection of the players. Maybe they both should get recognition for getting the most votes out of all the polls…Go Buffs!
