Week 2 Upset Alerts – 2012

By  |

Everybody loves an upset.  Little ones, big ones, anything.  So each week I will profile, what I see in the CFBMatrix numbers, as the best upset potentials of the week.  These ARE NOT my premium picks found in Best Bets.  They all go against Vegas and their favorites to win.  Each is identified by location, coaching and talent trends as games to watch for the upset.

I will be on radio stations all over the country every week during football season to go over these upsets, talk some real picks for best bets during the week and go over any games that the CFBMatrix already pick the winner back in March.

2012 Year to Date Upset Alert Winning Percentage: 1-2 for 33%

In no particular order here are some games to watch for possible upsets in week 2 of college football.

#1.  Oregon State over Wisconsin.  8.5 point dogs at home, I called this one a long time ago.  No changes in the Matrix.  Beavs to win.

#2.  UCLA over Nebraska – Pelini has one upset road victory against the Matrix picks.  New coaching at UCLA but this is still a talented team that covers and wins in the first of two top 25 upsets in week 2.

#3.  Auburn is a 3.5 point underdog at Mississippi State this week.  Chizik and the Tigers have never had 2 straight upset Ls in a season and Mullen has one home upset win against the Matrix.  15 game correct streak on MSU on the line this week.

#4.  The Maryland Terps are 3:1 dogs to lose to Temple this week.  Temple?!?!?!  Edsall has already hit Matrix deadman walking status but losing to Temple may speed up the process.  Terps win.

#5. Florida is a slight underdog at Texas A&M.  They are more talented but this is exactly the profile of team that Muschamp lost to 4 times in 2011.  Keep doing it and he is gone.  Gators to win and cover at College Station.

#6. Northwestern over Vanderbilt.  NW is a slight dog at home and Vandy is a 2011 hangover media darling.  Watch them drop to 0-2 to start the season as expected.

#7.  The non-AQ upset win and cover is Houston.  If Levine can’t right the ship this week, he might as well turn in his playbook.  the Cougars have one of the biggest talent gaps per game on their schedule in 2012.  2 upsets in a row is flat out bad.
