Renovations and improvements at the biggest college football stadiums have allowed for crowds of 100,000+ to become a regular occurrence. As of 2021, eight schools have home stadiums that can hold over 100,000 people.
It’s crazy to think that in 1869, just 100 spectators came together for the first college game ever played.
147 years later, an NCAA-record crowd of 156,990 fans packed into the Bristol Motor Speedway for the Tennessee-Virginia Tech game on Sept. 10, 2016.
